Good architecture does not begin with a design.
It begins with a decision. With great joy and gratitude, we are honoured to share that **Am Hirschengrün has been awarded the Austrian Bauherrenpreis 2025**, presented by the **Central Association of Architects in Austria (ZV)**.

This award does not solely celebrate the completed building.
Above all, it recognises the *process*: the collaboration between clients and architects, the ongoing dialogue, the courage to take a clear stance, and the trust placed in a shared vision.

#### What the Bauherrenpreis stands for

Since 1967, the Bauherrenpreis has asked a fundamental question:
What makes good building culture possible? The answer lies not only in architecture itself, but in the interplay behind it
in decisions taken, in responsibility assumed, in ideas carried together. Often against resistance, always through dialogue. In 2025, **112 projects** were submitted. From these, **24 were nominated**, and ultimately **seven projects from across Austria** were selected by the main jury of the ZV. **Am Hirschengrün is one of them.**

#### From historic site to urban quarter

Am Hirschengrün emerged from a place with history.
What was once the *Hirschenwirt* has become a new urban quarter that brings together **hotel, living, deli, studios and garden**. A project that consciously works with the existing fabric while opening new paths: Am Hirschengrün emerged from a place with history.

– a **wood-hybrid building** with visible, honest materials
– a **5,000 m² inner courtyard**, where asphalt once dominated
– loggias, balconies and visual connections to green spaces
– a place open to **guests, residents and the neighbourhood alike**

#### Building culture is client culture

The Bauherrenpreis highlights what often remains unseen:
the role of clients as initiators, enablers and sparring partners. As jury member **Kaye Geipel** writes: *“Architecture begins — something easily forgotten not with a competition or a design, but with a decision.”* This decision was made together.
With **Dietrich Untertrifaller Architects** and **LP architektur** through openness, trust and a shared commitment to creating a place with lasting value: socially, ecologically and culturally. We understand this award not as a conclusion, but as a confirmation of a path we continue to follow. A path where sustainability, responsibility and quality are not buzzwords, but daily practice.

We thank everyone who has accompanied, questioned, contributed to and made this project possible.
And we are grateful that **Am Hirschengrün** is now part of a larger narrative of Austrian building culture.
